SystemSpin adware Removal
What is SystemSpin adware
SystemSpin adware is advertised as a useful tool for improving the browsing experience, but it’s classified as an adware infection due to its behaviour. This adware is primarily a Mac problem, but Windows computers have loads of other adware infections to deal with. Adware isn’t particularly dangerous, even if many users refer to it as a virus. It will display a lot of ads and redirect to questionable websites but it shouldn’t cause serious harm. However, to avoid more trouble, it’s recommended to not interact with any ads while adware is installed. The adware could be pushing you ads that promote fake updates and malicious programs, which could lead to serious malware infections.
You can check whether SystemSpin is installed on your Mac by going to Finder -> Applications. If you find the white magnifying glass in a green background icon there, your Mac is indeed infected with adware. We recommend using anti-spyware software to remove SystemSpin adware but you can probably be successful manually as well.
How does SystemSpin adware install
It’s not impossible that you installed it yourself knowingly, thinking it’s a useful program to have. After all, it is advertised as a program that will improve your browsing experience. If that is the case, before installing programs in the future, make sure you do research.
If you cannot recall installing the program yourself, it likely sneaked in somehow. It could have been pushed to you disguised as an update of some kind. These fake updates can often be encountered on sites hosting pirated or adult content. We recommend having adblocker enabled when browsing such sites. Furthermore, keep in mind that no legitimate updates will ever be pushed via browser ads.
It could have also been attached to free software as an extra offer. Freeware often comes with all kinds of offers attached to it, and if they are not manually deselected during installation, they will install alongside. Fortunately, deselecting the offers is rather simple. During the installation process, when given the option, opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings will all extra offers visible, and you will be able to deselect all of them. We recommend always unchecking all the boxes.
What does SystemSpin adware do?
While it’s advertised as a useful tool, SystemSpin is actually adware. Its main purpose is to expose you to as many ads as possible. This will affect all browsers you have installed, whether you’re using Safari, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. While browsing, you will be randomly redirected to questionable websites and be exposed to all kinds of weird ads. We do not recommend interacting with any ads while adware is installed because they could be dangerous. Adware can expose you to ads advertising fake updates and disguised malware.
Another worrying feature adware has is data collection. Adware tracks users, collecting information like what sites you visit, what you search for, what ads you click on, your IP address, etc. That information would be used to generate ads you’d be more likely to click on, as well as shared with unfamiliar third-parties.
