Why are sites like dangerous

If users do not have adblocker, they will immediately see shady advertisements promoting clickbait articles and various scams. Additionally, clicking on anything on the site may trigger a redirect. The site may also trigger a redirect to highly questionable content. We recommend immediately closing the window without interacting with the contents of the site as it will likely show scams. It’s possible users would be shown tech-support scams that aim to trick users into calling the displayed numbers by claiming the computer is infected with some kind of virus that is stealing information. Professional scammers on the other side of the line would try to trick users into paying for useless services. Any ad claiming there is an infection should be ignored as it will always be a scam.

If users get the “Allow (sitename) to show notification” alert and press “Allow”, they will start getting ads on their desktops. Browser notifications are useful in some cases, such as in order to keep up with the news. However, agreeing to allow highly questionable sites to show notifications would be a big mistake. The notifications would be potentially dangerous ads that could expose the user to scams and even malware.   • For Google Chrome: Menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Privacy and security -> Site Settings. Click on Notifications under Permissions, and remove remove and/or any other suspicious site. Users can stop these notification requests permanently by toggling off “Sites can ask to send notifications”.

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
