Remove virus

About virus virus refers to an adware infection, often mistakenly though by users to be a virus. An adware infection is pretty minor, albeit very annoying because it exposes you to various kinds of advertisements. Adware’s primary purpose is to expose you to as many ads as possible in order to generate revenue. The ads vary from regular banner ones to pop-ups and redirects. The latter of which are incredibly annoying to deal with because of how intrusive they are. Your browsing will be interrupted pretty regularly, and the ads could even expose you to highly questionable content, including scams and malware.

Adware usually installs without users noticing, via software bundling. We will explain this in more detail later on but the gist of it is that minor infections like adware, browser hijackers and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) come attached to free software as extra offers. Those extra offers are authorized to install alongside automatically, unless users manually deselect them. But because many users aren’t aware of those offers, they end up allowing those offers to install alongside. It’s fortunately very easy to stop these offers from installing, as long as you know how.

While adware isn’t particularly harmful, allowing it to remain installed is not recommended. The sooner you delete virus, the better. And using anti-virus software is easiest because the program would take care of everything.

Adware installs via software bundling

Software bundling is the method used by minor infections like adware and browser hijackers to install on users’ computers without requiring their permission. It’s a very sneaky method of installation, which is why programs that use it are usually classified as potentially unwanted programs of some kind.

Software bundling is essentially adding additional offers to programs. Like we said above, the offers are usually unwanted programs like adware and browser hijackers. The offers are permitted to install alongside automatically, unless users manually deselect them. But since they are usually hidden, users end up accidentally allowing them to install without even knowing.

In order to prevent the offers from installing, you need to pay attention when installing freeware. When the installation wizard allows you to choose settings, always opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings will make the offers visible, and you will have the option to deselect everything. All you really need to do is uncheck the boxes. Once that is done, you can continue the installation.

Keep in mind that the majority of programs you download from those free download sites will have something attached to it. Thus, it’s better to download programs from official websites instead of those third-party downloads pages. And it’s very easy to prevent the unwanted installations, especially compared to the time and effort it takes to get rid of already installed pests like adware.

Is virus harmful?

Because of the way adware behaves, it’s a very noticeable infection. You will start getting redirected to random websites, see intrusive and highly questionable ads when browsing regular sites, and get annoying pop-ups. Regular ads are annoying enough, adware generated ones can be very intrusive not to mention somewhat dangerous. The adware can attach itself to all popular browsers, including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Once it’s attached, you’ll start seeing the ads everywhere.

The most intrusive and dangerous thing about adware is the redirect and pop-ups. It could redirect you to all kinds of potentially dangerous sites, such as ones promoting scams or hiding malware. Thus, it’s better to avoid clicking on any kind of ad if you notice that adware is installed. Adware is also often responsible for leading users to tech-support scams which try to trick users into calling fake tech-support numbers. During the scam, users are tricked into thinking that they’re computers are infected with viruses. If they call the fake numbers, they would be tricked into paying hundreds of dollars for fake tech-support.

Adware also tracks users and their activities. It tracks what sites users visit, what they search for, what ads they click on, their IP addresses, etc. That information is later used to generate more tailored ads or it’s shared with unknown third-parties. virus removal
