Remove iTunesWriter Adware

What is iTunesWriter Adware

iTunesWriter Adware is a minor infection that affects Mac computers. It is very clear that the infection tries to conceal itself by having iTunes in its name. However, in reality it has nothing to do with the legitimate iTunes. If this adware is installed on your computer, you will constantly get an alert warning you that iTunesWriter will damage your computer and that you should move it to the trash. However, no matter how many times you may click “Move to Trash”, the alert will keep appearing. To make the alert disappear permanently, you need to delete iTunesWriter Adware.

iTunesWriter Adware

These alerts indicate that your Mac is infected with adware. It’s not a serious infection but it is an annoying one. It will constantly disrupt your normal browsing by bombarding you with ads. Adware itself is relatively harmless but the same cannot be said about the ads it generates. Ads could expose you to potentially unreliable content such as scams and even malware. If you find this adware installed, you need to be careful not engage with ads because of this.

How did you pick up an adware infection

Users usually install adware themselves, though it usually happens without them knowing. Less serious infections like adware, browser hijackers and potentially unwanted programs come attached to free software as extra offers, are hidden, and permitted to install alongside. The offers are optional but they are preselected to install automatically. To prevent their installations, you’d need to manually deselect them. Fortunately, that is not difficult to do.

During freeware installation, make sure you pay attention to the process. At some point, you will be given the choice between Default (Basic) settings and Advanced (Custom). If you opt for the latter, every offer that has been added to the program will be made visible. If something has been added, all you need to is uncheck the boxes of those offers. We always recommended deselecting all offers because they are mostly useless. And if you constantly allow pesky, albeit minor infections to install, your computer will quickly fill up with junk, and this would disrupt your regular browsing. Furthermore, programs that use software bundling to sneak past you and install do not belong on your computer. And deselecting a few boxes is much less time-consuming than it is to uncheck a couple of boxes.

What does iTunesWriter Adware do

iTunesWriter adds itself to startup items, meaning it will launch every time you start your Mac. So every time you boot your computer, you will get the “iTunesWriter will damage your computer. You should move it to the Trash” alert. Even if you do try to send it to the trash, it likely won’t work and you’ll keep getting the same alert. To stop the alerts, you will need to delete a few related files from your Library folders. We will provide a more detailed explanation in the last section of the report.

As we’ve mentioned above, the adware itself isn’t particularly dangerous. The biggest issue with these infections is the ads they generate. You could be bombarded with both regular ads, as well as pop-ups and redirects. This is not only disruptive but also possibly dangerous. You could be exposed to ads that promote scams and malware. If you are shown an ad offering you a program, do not download it. Never download programs from unofficial sources, such as ads. And if you are shown one of those “You have won” ads, ignore them and definitely do not engage with them. They are mere scams that want your personal information.
