Remove AweCleaner [Explained]
What is AweCleaner
AweCleaner is yet another questionable Mac cleaner that claims to improve the computer’s performance. There are countless programs like this, and while they’re not dangerous, they’re not particularly useful either. They are advertised as ones of those “magic cures” for a slow computer but they barely do anything. AweCleaner has features like junk cleaner, uninstaller, large file cleaner, disk manager, startup item manager, etc. While these features may seem useful, you can basically do everything yourself manually, without needing a program. So programs like AweCleaner are essentially useless.
AweCleaner is also not free, so you would be paying $29.95 for something you can easily do yourself. The program will not allow you to use its full features unless you first purchase it. It may also show you fake scan results in order to pressure you into making the purchase.
Mac cleaners often use software bundling to spread, so it would not be surprising if you found AweCleaner installed but have no recollection of doing it yourself. Unwanted programs come attached to free software as extra offers, and if users fail to notice and deselect them, they will install alongside without requiring explicit permission. Programs using this sneaky installation method are usually classified as potentially unwanted programs (PUP). If you do not recall installing it, but it’s present, delete AweCleaner.
Mac cleaners often use software bundling to install
It’s not uncommon for users to install programs like AweCleaner accidentally, without even knowing. In order to spread more widely and essentially trick users into installing them, such programs use software bundling. What that means is that they come attached to free software as extra offers, which are permitted to install alongside the program without requiring explicit permission. To make it more difficult for users, the offers are also hidden initially. To make them visible, you’d need to opt for Advanced (Custom) settings during installation. If anything was added to the program, those settings would show you. All you’d need to do is uncheck the boxes of those offers and continue the installation.
The program is advertised on various sites, so it is possible that you installed it yourself, thinking it will benefit your computer in some way. However, next time you want to install a program, do research first. Look into the developer, check the program’s reviews, etc.
Should you uninstall AweCleaner
You will start getting notifications as soon as the program installs. It will inform you of your computers state and the issues it has detected. We recommend you be skeptical of whatever issues it has found because they will likely be exaggerated or even made up. Many questionable system optimizers employ this tactic in order to pressure users into making a purchase, which is required to use the program’s fix features. AweCleaner is not a free program, a license costs $ 29.95, so before you buy, check what it has detected and consider whether it’s actually worth the money.
The system optimizer offers features like an uninstaller, file remover, duplicate finder, file shredder, etc. We should mention that you can do everything manually, without any trouble. You can easily remove old/large/unnecessary files to free up space, you can uninstall programs by dragging them to the trash, you can manage what programs start upon booting, etc.
Many users, particularly those using Mac computers, believe system optimizers are not necessary at all. They could even do some damage by accidentally deleting necessary files. If you believe your Mac would benefit from such a program, you can find better options than AweCleaner.
We should mention that AweCleaner shouldn’t harm your computer as it’s not malware. But since it’s not particularly useful either, you should consider uninstalling it.
A couple of anti-virus programs detect and remove AweCleaner. However, you should also be able to delete AweCleaner manually. Open Finder -> Applications, find AweCleaner and drag it to the trash. Find all related files and do the same. Right-click on the trash icon and select Empty Trash. Be careful to remove all related files to prevent the program from being able to recover.
