Presenoker Virus Removal [Explained]

What is Presenoker Virus

Presenoker Virus, or PUA:Win32/Presenoker is a detection name used by Windows Defender. Numerous users have reported that they are suddenly getting Windows Defender alerts claiming that PUA:Win32/Presenoker has been detected. Even after users delete Presenoker Virus, the alert keeps appearing. This can get annoying very quickly, as the alert will keep bothering users after they use Windows Defender to get rid of the infection.

Presenoker Virus

It appears that the repeated detection is a known issue and it seems to have started after W10 V2004 (Windows 10 May 2020 update), beginning with which Windows Defender now identifies potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) as threats. If you have this update installed, when Windows Defender detects a particular PUP, it will repeatedly show the alert displaying its detection.

The issue seems to be that the PUP in question remains in Protection History, as when Windows Defender detects a PUP, it blocks them and leaves them in Protection History. Since Windows Defender scans its own History, it detects the file it left over and over again. Other anti-virus programs would not detect the file as it no longer actually exists on the computer.

How to delete Presenoker Virus

If the alert notifying the detection of Presenoker Virus keeps appearing over and over again, you likely have installed the W10 V2004 update. According to a post on a Microsoft forum, this will keep happening until either Microsoft fixes this problem or users delete the item in question from Protection History. The same post explains that you can delete the item by going C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service. In the Service folder, delete “Detection History”. It should be noted that Program Data is a hidden file. To view hidden items, open “This PC”, press on the View tab and check the box that says “Hidden items”.

But just to be on the same side, we suggest scanning your computer with an additional, equally reliable anti-virus program. If it doesn’t detect anything, it’s likely an issue with Windows Defender.
