Max Utilities Removal [Explained]
What is Max Utilities
Max Utilities is a highly questionable system optimization tool, classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) due to its installation methods and overall behaviour. The program claims to be able to speed up and optimize your computer by cleaning the registry, deleting a few old files, and managing the startup programs. It also claims to be able to fix privacy issues. However, it’s a rather suspicious program that will show you fake scan results with loads of issues so that you would use the program to fix them. But you will be unable to do more than scan with the program unless you purchase the full version of the program. Max Utilities will essentially show you fake results to encourage you to buy its full version. This is a very common tactic used by many similar programs. We do not believe buying this program is a good idea, and you should instead delete Max Utilities.
It’s very possible that the program installed on your computer via freeware bundles. It could have been attached to free software you installed as an extra offer, and you did not pay enough attention to notice. This is called software bundling, and if you want to learn more, continue reading as we will explain in the next section.
How does Max Utilities install
The program does have an official website from which you can download the program. However, there are many similar programs available so you downloading this particular one is unlikely. What’s more likely is you accidentally installing it when installing freeware.
A lot of free programs come with all kinds of extra offers attached to them, from adware to PUPs. They are attached to freeware as extra offers, which are permitted to install alongside the program without requiring additional permission from users. The offers are purposely hidden from users initially because otherwise, users would deselect them. However, as long as you pay attention to the process, you will be able to easily prevent the offers from installing.
During the freeware installation process, choose Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. Advanced will show you if anything has been added and give you the option to deselect everything. All you need to is uncheck the boxes of those offers. If you install freeware in Default, the offers will install alongside the freeware. Unchecking a couple of boxes takes a few seconds, while uninstalling PUPs can be very time-consuming, not to mention annoying.
Should you remove Max Utilities
When Max Utilities installs, it will start showing you notifications, pestering you about performing a scan. The program looks like a typical system optimizer and you can easily perform a scan. If you do, do not be surprised if you see hundreds, if not thousands of identified issues. It looks for old registry entries, unused/leftover files, programs that may not need to launch at startup, and other issues that could affect your computer’s performance in a negative way. In order to encourage you to purchase the full version of the program, Max Utilities will show you exaggerated or even made up results. Without buying the program, you will be unable to use fix feature. The program costs $39.99, which is a lot of for a program that barely does anything.
Most of the things programs like Max Utilities claim to do, you can do yourself. You can easily delete large old files, erase your browsing history, and manage start up program. You do not need a program for that. Furthermore, contrary to what programs like Max Utilities claim, deleting a old files and cleaning the registry will not solve your computer’s performance issues. It could actually do the opposite. Max Utilities has a registry cleaner, which is not something Microsoft recommends using. The cleaner could accidentally delete an essential entry, which could result in system errors solvable only by reinstalling Windows.
